11th May 2021

Dr Shona Brothwell (Paediatric Registrar), Dr Srividya Sreekantam (Consultant in Inherited Metabolic Disorders) and the Metabolic team at BCH would like to thank all participants and speakers that attended the Metabolic Emergencies Study Day on Tuesday 11th May 2021.

The event; aimed at Paediatric/ Neonatal Trainees and Consultants, saw an interactive study day involving a combination of short lectures and case-based discussions, covering the following key learning objectives:

  1. Understand the causes of hyperammonaemia.
  2. Identify important features in the history, examination and initial investigations which indicate an underlying inborn error of metabolism.
  3. Appreciate the time-critical nature of the recognition and management of hyperammonaemia (including a practical prescribing session).
  4. Understand the role of KIDS/ NTS.

The IMD team with the support of PiP look to hosting another event in the near future and encourage you to email us if this would be of interest to you.
